Here’s a quick study in oils of the surf break I’ve always known as ‘Hospitals,’ at Yallingup. Although it has other names, ‘Hospitals’ seems reasonable given its proximity to the rocks. It needs a sizable swell to be ridable and better surfers than I have tackled it and survived!
When it’s breaking well ‘Hospitals’ is the ideal wave for the phantom surfer who lives in my head – ‘ paddle now, drop, turn, stay high, avoid that rock, and that other one, kick out, paddle again, repeat…..’
Given my reputation as a ‘reef magnet’, I prefer to admire it from the carpark, replete with coffee and cake from the Pronto Cino coffee van.
